Early Intervention is so important and may give a young one (and their parents) skills and strategies to make the future less daunting.
My background as a Special Education Teacher of 35 years has shown me the benefits that young children receive when early intervention occurs and also the feeling of not being "lost" for their parents.
Depending on your child's disability, early intervention could be done one-on-one or in small groups. You may require a speech language pathologist (fancy name for a speech therapist) or a variety of specialists including a special education teacher, physiotherapist and/or psychologist.
*assist the child with a disability and/or a developmental delay to work towards increased functional independence.
*support the parents/carers with skills and strategies to encourage their child to become as independent as possible.
*support the parents/carers and let them know they are not alone in this journey.
* work towards the child's independence and social participation in a variety of settings, e.g. home, community, shops, playgroups.
*discover what is best for your child right now - one-on-one support or small group based specialist interventions.
